Opened Up a Can Of Worms
Hi Janet, just a follow up to let you know how I have progressed after your help. I thought I would let you know about at a bit of a controversy that I have caused doing my family tree…
Whilst researching my Family Tree, I have got as far back as the 1790;s. However this opened a huge can of worms with my more recent ancestors.
My Mother was one of five children born into a catholic family. The youngest died sadly on his 4th birthday. Mum and her twin brother were next [both now deceased].They had one sister four years older[surviving] and another sister four years older[also now deceased].
Whilst doing my research I found my Grandparents wedding records. Shortly after I found my eldest aunt's birth record. There had been only a couple of months between them!
I made a casual remark about this to my surviving Aunt, to which she replied “It couldn't possibly be true as there are four years between each of us”.
I checked, double checked and my uncle even checked too and it turns out that I am correct. My auntie was a year older than everybody thought and went to her grave thinking she was a year younger. We can only assume that the family secret was created to hide the shame of a Catholic “shotgun” wedding.
